The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 888 offenses for the week of April 29 to May 5, 2024, up 5% from the 4-week average of 843 and down 12% from the same week a year earlier (1,005).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): fraud, 60 against a 4-week average of 31.5; simple assault, 109 against a 4-week average of 81.5; other theft, 128 against a 4-week average of 104.5.

Wednesday had the most offenses (142). The busiest part of the day was afternoon (noon-6 p.m.) (277).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 60 (down 18% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 128 (down 2%).
