The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 898 offenses for the week of April 15-21, 2024, up 22% from the 4-week average of 736 and down 1% from the same week a year earlier (906).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): motor vehicle theft, 178 against a 4-week average of 95.8; property damage / vandalism, 164 against a 4-week average of 116; theft from motor vehicle, 69 against a 4-week average of 58.8.

Thursday had the most offenses (149). The busiest part of the day was afternoon (noon-6 p.m.) (295).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 69 (up 17% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 178 (up 86%).
