The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 896 offenses for the week of January 29 to February 4, 2024, up 17% from the 4-week average of 764 and up 6% from the same week a year earlier (847).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): weapon law violations, 28 against a 4-week average of 15.8; sex offenses, 24 against a 4-week average of 12.3.

Saturday had the most offenses (158). The busiest part of the day was morning (6 a.m.-noon) (274).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 79 (up 60% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 136 (up 5%).
