The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 1,005 offenses for the week of May 1-7, 2023, up 8% from the 4-week average of 932 and up 27% from the same week a year earlier (794).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): intimidation, 52 against a 4-week average of 35.5; fraud, 46 against a 4-week average of 31.8; sex offenses, 24 against a 4-week average of 14.5.

Thursday had the most offenses (172). The busiest part of the day was afternoon (noon-6 p.m.) (314).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 92 (up 20% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 190 (flat).
