The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,904 offenses in December 2023, up 4% from November 2023 (3,757) and up 15% from December 2022 (3,394).

The largest increase from a year earlier was property damage / vandalism (562 against 390, up 44%), and the largest decrease was motor vehicle theft (552 against 629, down 12%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 337 (up 45% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 552 (down 12%).

MPD recorded 15 homicide offenses in December 2023, against 10 in December 2022.

By neighborhood, compared with December 2022, offenses were up the most: Downtown West (183 to 235), Jordan (89 to 140), Whittier (189 to 233); down the most: Near - North (114 to 89), Northeast Park (46 to 28), St. Anthony West (35 to 19).
