The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,028 offenses in February 2022, down 7% from January 2022 (3,247) and up 17% from February 2021 (2,585).

The largest increase from a year earlier was vehicle parts theft (324 against 217, up 49%), and the largest decrease was fraud (109 against 185, down 41%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 234 (up 29% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 398 (up 1%).

MPD recorded 9 homicide offenses in February 2022, against 7 in February 2021.

By neighborhood, compared with February 2021, offenses were up the most: Whittier (112 to 186), Downtown West (114 to 184), Lowry Hill East (63 to 113); down the most: Cedar Riverside (60 to 41), Loring Park (73 to 57), Windom Park (38 to 22).
