The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,247 offenses in January 2022, down 6% from December 2021 (3,440) and up 3% from January 2021 (3,145).

The largest increase from a year earlier was vehicle parts theft (310 against 212, up 46%), and the largest decrease was other offenses (106 against 155, down 32%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 253 (up 22% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 453 (up 14%).

MPD recorded 3 homicide offenses in January 2022, against 4 in January 2021.

By neighborhood, compared with January 2021, offenses were up the most: Lowry Hill East (82 to 128), North Loop (41 to 81), Whittier (144 to 173); down the most: Willard - Hay (86 to 48), Northrop (38 to 14), Bancroft (36 to 15).
