The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 1,055 offenses for the week of August 12-18, 2024, up 5% from the 4-week average of 1,006 and up 1% from the same week a year earlier (1,045).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): motor vehicle theft, 180 against a 4-week average of 140.3; other theft, 185 against a 4-week average of 154.8.

Monday had the most offenses (164). The busiest part of the day was afternoon (noon-6 p.m.) (323).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 105 (up 9% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 180 (up 28%).
