The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 1,053 offenses for the week of August 7-13, 2023, up 4% from the 4-week average of 1,008 and up 7% from the same week a year earlier (980).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): property damage / vandalism, 188 against a 4-week average of 124; motor vehicle theft, 198 against a 4-week average of 148.8.

Wednesday had the most offenses (171). The busiest part of the day was afternoon (noon-6 p.m.) (326).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 76 (down 10% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 198 (up 33%).
