The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 980 offenses for the week of May 15-21, 2023, up 2% from the 4-week average of 965 and up 12% from the same week a year earlier (873).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): other offenses, 33 against a 4-week average of 17.3; drug offenses, 36 against a 4-week average of 25.5.

Tuesday had the most offenses (159). The busiest part of the day was afternoon (noon-6 p.m.) (297).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 59 (down 33% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 138 (down 23%).
