The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 4,656 offenses in August 2026, up 5% from July 2026 (4,431) and up 1% from August 2025 (4,610).

The largest increase from a year earlier was property damage / vandalism (1,068 against 892, up 20%), and the largest decrease was motor vehicle theft (424 against 496, down 14%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 473 (up 15% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 424 (down 14%).

MPD recorded 3 homicide offenses in August 2026, against 6 in August 2025.

By neighborhood, compared with August 2025, offenses were up the most: Marcy Holmes (108 to 156), Hawthorne (105 to 149), Holland (49 to 88); down the most: Steven's Square - Loring Heights (80 to 36), Linden Hills (62 to 22), Ventura Village (137 to 103).
