The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,526 offenses in September 2026, down 24% from August 2026 (4,656) and down 12% from September 2025 (3,989).

The largest increase from a year earlier was drug offenses (137 against 115, up 19%), and the largest decrease was simple assault (373 against 465, down 20%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 315 (down 13% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 320 (down 19%).

MPD recorded 4 homicide offenses in September 2026, against 10 in September 2025.

By neighborhood, compared with September 2025, offenses were up the most: Lowry Hill East (78 to 114), Como (39 to 68), Lyndale (78 to 99); down the most: Nicollet Island - East Bank (73 to 12), Ventura Village (126 to 84), Hiawatha (80 to 40).
