The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,989 offenses in September 2025, down 14% from August 2025 (4,610) and down 10% from September 2024 (4,421).

The largest increase from a year earlier was shoplifting (152 against 80, up 90%), and the largest decrease was motor vehicle theft (397 against 610, down 35%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 362 (down 12% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 397 (down 35%).

MPD recorded 10 homicide offenses in September 2025, against 10 in September 2024.

By neighborhood, compared with September 2024, offenses were up the most: Nicollet Island - East Bank (34 to 73), Powderhorn Park (88 to 118), Prospect Park - East River Road (65 to 92); down the most: Whittier (287 to 206), Marcy Holmes (143 to 96), Lowry Hill East (123 to 78).
