The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,959 offenses in May 2025, up 18% from April 2025 (3,364) and down 6% from May 2024 (4,194).

The largest increase from a year earlier was simple assault (524 against 448, up 17%), and the largest decrease was motor vehicle theft (428 against 668, down 36%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 388 (up 12% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 428 (down 36%).

MPD recorded 4 homicide offenses in May 2025, against 11 in May 2024.

By neighborhood, compared with May 2024, offenses were up the most: Keewaydin (9 to 30), Cedar Riverside (45 to 65), Linden Hills (9 to 29); down the most: Whittier (265 to 211), Marcy Holmes (137 to 88), Lyndale (98 to 56).
