The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,359 offenses in January 2025, down 4% from December 2024 (3,510) and down 2% from January 2024 (3,416).

The largest increase from a year earlier was theft from motor vehicle (351 against 225, up 56%), and the largest decrease was motor vehicle theft (405 against 564, down 28%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 351 (up 56% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 405 (down 28%).

MPD recorded 4 homicide offenses in January 2025, against 3 in January 2024.

By neighborhood, compared with January 2024, offenses were up the most: Downtown West (144 to 230), North Loop (48 to 82), Elliot Park (64 to 98); down the most: Whittier (235 to 179), Central (94 to 60), East Phillips (86 to 59).
