The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 4,454 offenses in October 2024, up 1% from September 2024 (4,421) and up 13% from October 2023 (3,951).

The largest increase from a year earlier was other theft (729 against 566, up 29%), and the largest decrease was vehicle parts theft (68 against 135, down 50%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 474 (up 27% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 620 (up 8%).

MPD recorded 7 homicide offenses in October 2024, against 4 in October 2023.

By neighborhood, compared with October 2023, offenses were up the most: Whittier (209 to 274), Loring Park (97 to 144), Downtown West (246 to 291); down the most: Jordan (131 to 97), Willard - Hay (102 to 74), Central (80 to 55).
