The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 4,421 offenses in September 2024, down 2% from August 2024 (4,492) and up 14% from September 2023 (3,878).

The largest increase from a year earlier was property damage / vandalism (662 against 495, up 34%), and the largest decrease was vehicle parts theft (83 against 134, down 38%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 411 (up 36% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 610 (up 34%).

MPD recorded 10 homicide offenses in September 2024, against 5 in September 2023.

By neighborhood, compared with September 2023, offenses were up the most: Whittier (220 to 287), North Loop (50 to 113), Elliot Park (82 to 138); down the most: Como (61 to 19), Jordan (128 to 104), East Isles (72 to 48).
