The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,630 offenses in April 2024, up 8% from March 2024 (3,348) and down 8% from April 2023 (3,941).

The largest increase from a year earlier was property damage / vandalism (652 against 561, up 16%), and the largest decrease was motor vehicle theft (566 against 799, down 29%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 313 (down 3% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 566 (down 29%).

MPD recorded 6 homicide offenses in April 2024, against 5 in April 2023.

By neighborhood, compared with April 2023, offenses were up the most: Midtown Phillips (41 to 75), Nicollet Island - East Bank (7 to 30), Cleveland (26 to 42); down the most: Lowry Hill East (155 to 105), North Loop (94 to 53), Loring Park (114 to 77).
