The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 4,504 offenses in July 2023, up 13% from June 2023 (3,994) and down 5% from July 2022 (4,732).

The largest increase from a year earlier was drug offenses (183 against 96, up 91%), and the largest decrease was vehicle parts theft (127 against 269, down 53%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 349 (down 15% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 641 (up 10%).

MPD recorded 8 homicide offenses in July 2023, against 9 in July 2022.

By neighborhood, compared with July 2022, offenses were up the most: Lyndale (69 to 121), Elliot Park (75 to 118), Lowry Hill East (136 to 170); down the most: Marcy Holmes (158 to 83), Downtown West (375 to 313), Midtown Phillips (115 to 60).
