The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,941 offenses in April 2023, up 4% from March 2023 (3,791) and up 20% from April 2022 (3,289).

The largest increase from a year earlier was motor vehicle theft (799 against 341, up 134%), and the largest decrease was vehicle parts theft (140 against 374, down 63%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 322 (up 47% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 799 (up 134%).

MPD recorded 5 homicide offenses in April 2023, against 14 in April 2022.

By neighborhood, compared with April 2022, offenses were up the most: Whittier (153 to 240), Lowry Hill East (91 to 155), Lyndale (53 to 93); down the most: Downtown West (282 to 220), Prospect Park - East River Road (85 to 61), Northeast Park (50 to 31).
