The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,791 offenses in March 2023, up 17% from February 2023 (3,250) and up 13% from March 2022 (3,344).

The largest increase from a year earlier was motor vehicle theft (892 against 342, up 161%), and the largest decrease was vehicle parts theft (189 against 389, down 51%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 288 (up 31% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 892 (up 161%).

MPD recorded 2 homicide offenses in March 2023, against 6 in March 2022.

By neighborhood, compared with March 2022, offenses were up the most: Whittier (133 to 224), Lowry Hill East (74 to 125), Lyndale (55 to 103); down the most: Prospect Park - East River Road (78 to 38), Hawthorne (113 to 75), Downtown West (258 to 220).
