The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,394 offenses in December 2022, down 6% from November 2022 (3,625) and down 1% from December 2021 (3,440).

The largest increase from a year earlier was motor vehicle theft (629 against 448, up 40%), and the largest decrease was vehicle parts theft (151 against 258, down 42%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 233 (down 16% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 629 (up 40%).

MPD recorded 10 homicide offenses in December 2022, against 6 in December 2021.

By neighborhood, compared with December 2021, offenses were up the most: Elliot Park (58 to 89), Near - North (86 to 114), Whittier (161 to 189); down the most: Downtown West (230 to 183), Lowry Hill (41 to 17), Hiawatha (57 to 34).
