The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 4,323 offenses in August 2022, down 9% from July 2022 (4,732) and up 15% from August 2021 (3,773).

The largest increase from a year earlier was motor vehicle theft (556 against 338, up 64%), and the largest decrease was fraud (133 against 165, down 19%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 415 (up 38% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 556 (up 64%).

MPD recorded 9 homicide offenses in August 2022, against 11 in August 2021.

By neighborhood, compared with August 2021, offenses were up the most: Whittier (163 to 229), Downtown West (274 to 320), Hiawatha (46 to 83); down the most: Loring Park (135 to 112), Folwell (97 to 75), Steven's Square - Loring Heights (67 to 49).
