The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,921 offenses in May 2022, up 19% from April 2022 (3,289) and up 9% from May 2021 (3,606).

The largest increase from a year earlier was vehicle parts theft (308 against 177, up 74%), and the largest decrease was fraud (119 against 177, down 33%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 308 (up 13% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 399 (up 31%).

MPD recorded 5 homicide offenses in May 2022, against 13 in May 2021.

By neighborhood, compared with May 2021, offenses were up the most: Northeast Park (20 to 65), Whittier (157 to 197), Near - North (95 to 124); down the most: Marcy Holmes (179 to 100), Hawthorne (119 to 98), East Phillips (92 to 77).
