The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,833 offenses in September 2021, up 2% from August 2021 (3,773) and down 4% from September 2020 (4,006).

The largest increase from a year earlier was other theft (603 against 480, up 26%), and the largest decrease was property damage / vandalism (427 against 543, down 21%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 354 (down 24% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 382 (up 12%).

MPD recorded 11 homicide offenses in September 2021, against 5 in September 2020.

By neighborhood, compared with September 2020, offenses were up the most: Downtown West (230 to 279), Whittier (150 to 184), Harrison (28 to 59); down the most: Hawthorne (130 to 97), Hale (31 to 1), Jordan (122 to 96).
