The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,851 offenses in July 2021, up 6% from June 2021 (3,633) and down 8% from July 2020 (4,163).

The largest increase from a year earlier was other theft (622 against 556, up 12%), and the largest decrease was burglary (227 against 379, down 40%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 291 (down 13% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 387 (down 5%).

MPD recorded 8 homicide offenses in July 2021, against 15 in July 2020.

By neighborhood, compared with July 2020, offenses were up the most: Downtown West (248 to 299), Lowry Hill East (97 to 139), Loring Park (114 to 139); down the most: Powderhorn Park (161 to 69), Ventura Village (134 to 77), Midtown Phillips (126 to 71).
