The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 3,380 offenses in March 2020, up 12% from February 2020 (3,006) and up 12% from March 2019 (3,029).

The largest increase from a year earlier was vehicle parts theft (167 against 14, up 1093%), and the largest decrease was other theft (451 against 489, down 8%).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 317 (up 26% from a year earlier); motor vehicle theft was 306 (up 46%).

MPD recorded 2 homicide offenses in March 2020, against 2 in March 2019.

By neighborhood, compared with March 2019, offenses were up the most: Seward (52 to 86), North Loop (36 to 67), Marcy Holmes (64 to 95); down the most: Downtown West (338 to 224), Elliot Park (93 to 56), Beltrami (22 to 6).
