The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 1,048 offenses for the week of August 17-23, 2026, up 1% from the 4-week average of 1,041 and down 4% from the same week a year earlier (1,096).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): simple assault, 127 against a 4-week average of 95.5.

Thursday had the most offenses (187). The busiest part of the day was afternoon (noon-6 p.m.) (324).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 105 (down 4% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 89 (down 11%).
