The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 756 offenses for the week of January 12-18, 2026, down 2% from the 4-week average of 768 and up 8% from the same week a year earlier (703).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): motor vehicle theft, 141 against a 4-week average of 90.5.

Friday had the most offenses (135). The busiest part of the day was afternoon (noon-6 p.m.) (234).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 72 (flat from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 141 (up 56%).
