The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 1,088 offenses for the week of September 23-29, 2024, up 8% from the 4-week average of 1,010 and up 26% from the same week a year earlier (861).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): property damage / vandalism, 184 against a 4-week average of 142.8; shoplifting, 29 against a 4-week average of 15; other offenses, 31 against a 4-week average of 18.3.

Sunday had the most offenses (173). The busiest part of the day was afternoon (noon-6 p.m.) (307).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 85 (down 17% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 166 (up 24%).
