The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 893 offenses for the week of December 11-17, 2023, up 4% from the 4-week average of 862 and up 11% from the same week a year earlier (803).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): vehicle parts theft, 42 against a 4-week average of 26.5; shoplifting, 21 against a 4-week average of 12.5.

Wednesday had the most offenses (142). The busiest part of the day was morning (6 a.m.-noon) (268).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 89 (up 20% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 118 (down 6%).
