The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 937 offenses for the week of September 4-10, 2023, down 9% from the 4-week average of 1,032 and flat from the same week a year earlier (941).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): simple assault, 111 against a 4-week average of 93.3; aggravated assault, 73 against a 4-week average of 58.3.

Friday had the most offenses (166). The busiest part of the day was afternoon (noon-6 p.m.) (314).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 76 (down 4% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 114 (down 28%).
