The Minneapolis Police Department recorded 1,006 offenses for the week of April 3-9, 2023, up 20% from the 4-week average of 837 and up 42% from the same week a year earlier (710).

Above their recent range (more than two standard deviations over the prior eight weeks): motor vehicle theft, 260 against a 4-week average of 195.3; property damage / vandalism, 163 against a 4-week average of 118; simple assault, 112 against a 4-week average of 70.8.

Friday had the most offenses (170). The busiest part of the day was afternoon (noon-6 p.m.) (339).

Theft from motor vehicle, the category that covers car break-ins, was 81 (up 31% from the 4-week average); motor vehicle theft was 260 (up 33%).
